Long time PTW enthusiasts may recall that the PTWS (Professional Training Weapon System) was designed from the ground up as a law enforcement / military training tool. Nonetheless, as we vow to always support our “root” in the skirmish community, we have consistently made available a small amount of slightly detuned,
“unofficial” civilian PTW for the general public. However, this civilian version (internally referred to as the “SYSTEMA Competition Rifle” – SCR), have recently been causing some confusion among the professional users mainly because there is practically no visual clue to distinguish the two from each other.
In order to remedy the issue, we have
recently decided to introduce a new, dedicated model designation for the “Pro”
market (which is what the PTW has always supposed to be – Professional Training
Weapons). That being said, please do note that this Military / Law Enforcement designated version of the PTW is NOT a new model. It has always been available in this particular specification and the product itself remain unchanged. What we did change is the engraving mark on all Military / LE version PTW – they now bears the “P.T.W.-4” model name (instead of, say, M4-A1) and have “mil/LE-grade” specifically engraved on each receiver. The original Phoenix logo and markings will remain unchanged for all civilian version PTWs.
In addition,
the following table will outline the primary differences* between the two versions – the “mil/LE Grade” PTW and the “Competition Grade” PTW. We will also
separately list the two major sub-categories in the Competition Grade PTW, Gen-3 PTW and
PTW-MAX, for ease of comparison. (The SYSTEMA Professional
Challenge Kit / PCK, once assembled, is comparable to the Gen-3
Competition-Grade PTW, thus it will not be separately listed.) I hope it will give the
respective users some good idea about the different versions and
minimize future confusions.
